Hey, I was thinking of you yesterday -- it was Teacher Day at the Franklin Institute (a place that seems to be full of out of control screaming kids randomly smacking buttons on parts of exhibits while not really learning anything about science, but I digress...) It included a free IMAX movie called "Wired to Win," which was all about what the brain of a Tour de France rider is doing. It was a pretty "meh" movie as actual science goes, but there were some spectacular IMAX shots of bicycles zooming down alpine mountains and such. Don't know exactly what year it was made -- Lance won, so that doesn't completely narrow it down -- but the sprinter who won was sort of the star of the movie, a relatively inexperienced (when the movie was filmed) Australian named Baden Cook. As I said, not great science, but if the film comes to the L'ville Science Center, you should check it out.

thanks for the headsup. fact is, the movie's original star was Tyler Hamilton, that was before he was busted for blood doping. its was from one of the tours lance won, but at the time, before he was caught CHEATING Tyler was becoming Mr. GoodGuy was was catching good PR like the movie. Oh well, though.

thanks and have a good one.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, the doping thing kind of makes you feel everyone is suspect -- you watch the footage and wonder if that amazing burst of speed from a relative nobody is good athletic ability or good drugs. It will take some time before the sport works its way up out of suspicion and back into legitimacy.
