La falta de Furia Roja

(This seems sort of silly-assigned seats like in kindergarten)

I found myself quite torn watching a Tivo'd game of US vs Spain in a pre-Euro friendly. Of course I have to root for Sam's Army or whatever the crappy nickname we have. Of course it would be unpatriotic, treasonous even, to not root for the ol' red, white and blue. But we're talking about a national side featuring Torres up top, Xavi and Cesc in the mid, Sergio Ramos on the wing and Iker in goal. I've watched too much La Liga not to be interested in how the Spanish played and prepared for Euro '08. Although I didn't watch the entire match, it seemed as though la furia could work it into the final 3rd but couldn't really close the deal. After a lackluster 2-1 win over Peru, you know the boobirds are out, screaming their pinche heads off against Aragones. Someone like Torres or Fabregas has to come up big in matches that count. And in case you didn't know, the Spanish have a LONG reputation for having a great league, great players, and a complete inability to come up big in the biggest competitions, unlike the Azurri or the French.

Spanish coverage is, let's say, less that complimentary: grey and shadow, streaks (seemingly optimistic, bittersweet, doubts, you get the drift. Spain's problem is that, while the US is supposed to be "lightweights", Spain and its huge league has to produce. It's like watching the U.S. lose in international competitions after however many years of NEVER losing. I want the Furia to have a good Euro showing just I want the US to have a good Cup showing. Looks like both are working on lowering my expectations.
