The only thing I've managed is one road ride, on top of commutes.
I haven't even commuted.
I won't be a zealot, I promise. This is the only time I will mention it at all unless you want to hear more, but reading Why We Get Fat and What to do About it by Gary Taubes has completely changed my approach to losing weight. Over the last 10 years I have steadily put on weight. A few pounds a year add up. During that time I have been very active (training for a half marathon), active (building up to a century ride) semi-active (exercising when the mood struck me) and basically inactive (no need to explain). It did not matter which mode I was in, I put on a bit of weight. It was kind of depressing.
But, since I started eating the way Taubes describes (very low carb) I have been dropping weight and feeling better. I gave up bread (I love bread), potatoes, pasta, corn, rice and !GASP! cut back on beer.
If you are interested, give it a try.
KP, I've been hemming and hawing over the Taubes book(s) and I think you've pushed me over the edge. I'm going to take a look. Thanks.
