NYC #3

Thursday a week we went to see the Mets play the Phillies at Shea Stadium, the other NYC stadium that is coming down at the end of the season. It was so interesting to see the contrast between Yankee St. and Shea. Bronx vs. Queens. Uptown vs. 'Burbs. upscale vs. "goombah". One of these pics is just across the street from the stadium, that of a huge line of junk yards hawking used car parts. Granted, Y.S. isn't in a nice part of town, but it is in a neighborhood, and not an industrial war zone. Flushing Meadows, home of the U.S. Open is on the other side of the street and subway from Shea. It's really no nicer there. It was a "meadow", to imply a big, flat spot for big buildings. Our seats were excellent for both days and it was a good game, with the home Metz winning (3-1).

Carlos Delgado at the plate.

The excellent 3rd baseman David Wright.

Monster Ryan Howard. I was very enthusiastic to see him play. He struck out 4 times, as did wonderboy 2nd baseman Chase Utley. The 3rd Philly stud, Jimmie Rollins, didn't play.

Another shot of home plate and Shea in general.

Junk Yard alley, with the requisite 'black cars' in wait. A ridiculous image, IMHO.
